C. Christopher Morris, an exceptionally talented Philadelphia cricket player, is shown in a painting wearing the All-Philadelphia team jacket. He was a member while still an undergraduate at Haverford College. Christie’s reputation was for his batting. He scored quickly and seemed most able when the stakes were high. He was taken along with the Haverford XI on a trip to England when only admitted but not having attended his first class.

Christie’s international cricket career opened with the Philadelphia Colts, playing against Prince Ranjitsinhji’s XI in 1899. He toured England with the Haverford College XI in 1900, and he captained the Haverford team on its English trip four years later.

Thereafter he was a member of every All-Philadelphia team in America and abroad. After John A. Lester’s retirement he captained them all. During an active playing career of over 30 years, he traveled more widely and made more devoted friends among world cricketers than probably any other American.

A detailed review of C. C. Morris’ cricket career appeared in the November 1927 American Cricketer and is reprinted here.
